Not really a Fly Fishing article but somewhat related.
Socks for Father’s Day are a past time joke to some but if they are Darn Tough Socks then that is a seriously good gift for DAD, at least for me they are. I was introduced to Darn Tough Wool Socks by my sister who works for Lone Cone in Boise Idaho. I bought a few pairs and have been hooked ever since. They are not cheap but the quality, performance, and warranty is fantastic on these socks (plus they are made in the USA).
My Hot Feet
I have issues with my feet getting really hot really easy and sometimes I have to take my shoes and socks off to cool down before I go crazy. You would think that wool socks would make this issue worse but in a conversation with my dad (who runs a mechanic shop) he swore by merino wool. I have since tried many merino wool socks and they worked good but the Darn Tough wool socks are definitely the best, Smart Wool would be my second choice. Sure my feet still get hot but not crazy hot and my feet don’t start sweating like they used to.
Wear Them For Everything
I wear them every day for everything (until they are all in the laundry basket). For work, outdoor activities, hiking, fishing, dress clothes, and even for basketball. Yes I still play basketball at 39 years old and these socks are fantastic for it and do not wear out like my old expensive gym socks I used to wear.
HI-Comfort Level
These socks have definitely increased my comfort level in everyday situations and especially in recreation use. They come in all sorts of thicknesses, styles, and colors to match any activity or season. Not only are they comfortable to wear but they are also comfortable temperature wise in allowing my feet to breath and not sweat. It really makes life a bit better to have really great performing comfortable socks that stay good for a long time.
Building My Stash
These socks are not cheap but they are built good enough for a “Guaranteed For Life” Warranty so why should they be. I have been using them for quite some time now and my socks are in great condition still. Every time someone asks what I want for my birthday, Christmas, Father’s Day (as you noticed in the top photo that is what I got this year), or what ever day they want to buy me a present I tell them Darn Tough socks. I am hoping to some day build up enough Darn Tough socks in my drawer to not have to wear any other socks again, that will be an expensive sock drawer but once I get my stash built up I should not need to buy socks for a very long time.
Socks for Father’s Day
So if you are thinking of getting dad some socks for Father’s Day (or any other day) make sure they are socks that really say I Love You like Darn Tough Wool Socks. And if you are thinking of getting him a tie, get him Darn Tough Wool Socks instead (unless he really REALLy needs a tie, then get him both).
